Preparation Time | 10-15 minutes |
Cooking Time | 40-60 minutes |
Total Time | 50-75 minutes |
Level of Difficulty | Medium |
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 can (26 oz) condensed tomato soup
- 3 cans (15 oz each) mixed chili beans
Step 1: Cook the Onions
Place a medium-sized pot over medium heat and add in the olive oil and diced onions.
Cook for 2-3 minutes or until the onions are softened and appear translucent.
Step 2: Brown the Ground Beef
Add the ground beef to the pot.
Cook until the meat is browned, making sure to break it up as you go.
Drain any excess grease and return the pot to the heat.
Step 3: Add Spices
Add your garlic and chili powder to the pot.
Stir well to combine with the browned meat.
Step 4: Combine with Tomato Soup and Beans
Add in the tomato soup and the cans of mixed chili beans (do not drain the beans beforehand).
Stir gently to combine all the ingredients.
Step 5: Simmer the Chili
Bring the pot to a boil and then reduce the heat to low.
Allow the chili to simmer for at least 30 minutes or up to 1 hour, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.
The chili will thicken as it cooks, and the flavors will meld together the longer it simmers.
Step 6: Serve and Enjoy
Serve the warm chili with cornbread and your favorite toppings.
Enjoy!
