Ingredient Substitutions

For a non-alcoholic version, replace vodka with white grape juice or apple juice, and substitute peppermint schnapps with peppermint extract mixed into additional water or milk. Use 1-2 teaspoons of extract, adjusting to taste. Cherry-flavored gelatin can be swapped for cranberry or strawberry gelatin to maintain a festive red color while offering flavor variety. For a vegan option, replace sweetened condensed milk with full-fat coconut milk mixed with a sweetener like agave syrup. Adjust sweetness as needed. Use agar-agar powder instead of plain gelatin for a plant-based alternative, following package instructions for proper substitution ratios. These changes maintain the dessert’s festive appearance and minty flavor profile while accommodating different dietary needs and preferences.

  • Fat: 20-30 g
  • Carbohydrates: 150-170 g

Ingredients

  • 1 packet cherry-flavored gelatin dessert (3.4 oz)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup chilled vodka
  • 2 packets plain gelatin
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup chilled peppermint schnapps
  • Whipped cream
  • Crushed peppermint candies

Step 1: Prepare the Cherry Gelatin Mixture

Start by whisking cherry gelatin mix with water in a saucepan over medium heat on the stovetop.

Continue whisking until the gelatin powder is completely dissolved.

Remove the saucepan from heat and whisk in cold vodka.

Set this mixture aside to cool slightly.

Step 2: Prepare the Peppermint Gelatin Mixture

In a separate pan, combine unflavored gelatin and 1 cup of water.

Whisk these together on the stovetop over medium heat until the gelatin is fully dissolved.

Remove from heat, then stir in cold peppermint schnapps and condensed milk until well combined.

Set this mixture aside to cool as well.

Step 3: Create the First Layer of Red Gelatin

Take your shot glasses and pour a layer of the prepared red cherry gelatin mixture into each one.

Aim for a thickness of about 1/4″ to 1/2″.

Place the shot glasses in the fridge to set, allowing the layer to firm up completely.

Step 4: Add the White Gelatin Layer

Once the red gelatin layer has set in the shot glasses, pour a layer of the white peppermint gelatin mixture over the red layer.

Again, aim for a thickness of about 1/4″ to 1/2″.

Return the shot glasses to the fridge for the white layer to set completely.

Step 5: Repeat the Layering Process

Continue alternating the cherry and peppermint gelatin layers in the shot glasses, allowing each layer to set in the fridge before adding the next.

Repeat this process until the shot glasses are filled with several colorful stripes of jello, making each layer around 1/4″ to 1/2″ thick.

Step 6: Garnish and Serve

Once all the layers are set and the shot glasses are filled, top each jello shot with a dollop of whipped cream.

Sprinkle crushed peppermints over the whipped cream for an added festive touch.

Serve chilled for a refreshing treat!
