Hey there, friends!
Looking for a delicious meal that’s quick and satisfying? I’ve got the perfect solution for you!
Today, I’m sharing my favorite recipe: ground beef with Greek yogurt.
It’s packed with flavor and protein, and it comes together in no time.
Plus, that creamy yogurt adds a twist you won’t want to miss!
Let’s dive into this tasty dish!
Ingredient Substitutions
Greek yogurt can be substituted with sour cream or dairy-free coconut yogurt for those avoiding dairy. These alternatives provide similar tanginess and creaminess while maintaining the dish’s texture. Adjust the quantity slightly as needed for desired consistency. Ground beef can be replaced with ground turkey or plant-based meat alternatives for lower fat content or vegetarian options. Cooking times may need adjustment, and additional seasonings might be necessary to enhance flavor. Za’atar seasoning can be substituted with a mixture of dried thyme, sesame seeds, and sumac for a similar Middle Eastern flavor profile. If sumac is unavailable, use lemon zest to achieve a tart, citrusy note. Adjust quantities to taste, as homemade blends may vary in intensity compared to store-bought Za’atar.

Ingredients
- 1 cup plain greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice, freshly squeezed
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, ground
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (if desired)
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat)
- 1 tablespoon za’atar seasoning
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 shallot, finely chopped (about 1/3 cup)
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh italian parsley or cilantro
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
Step 1: Prepare the Greek Yogurt Sauce
Add all of the sauce ingredients to a small bowl and stir until fully combined.
This will be your flavorful Greek yogurt sauce to serve with the kofta.
Keep it refrigerated until ready to use.
Step 2: Mix the Kofta Ingredients
In a large bowl, add all of your kofta ingredients.
Use a fork or your hands to mix the ingredients until just combined.
Take care not to overmix, as this can lead to tough kofta.
Step 3: Form the Kofta Patties
Using your hands, form small oblong patties with the mixed meat.
If the mixture begins to stick to your hands, coat them lightly with olive oil to help smoothly shape the patties.
Step 4: Cook the Kofta
Heat an oiled skillet over medium-high heat.
Place the formed patties onto the preheated skillet, ensuring not to overcrowd them.
Depending on the size of your skillet, you might need to cook in batches.
Cook uncovered for about 12 to 14 minutes, turning the kofta every couple of minutes to allow for even browning on all sides.
Ensure each side cooks long enough for easy turning without breaking.
The internal temperature should reach 160°F when checked with an instant-read thermometer inserted horizontally into the thickest part.
Step 5: Serve and Enjoy
Once fully cooked, serve the kofta hot with the prepared Greek yogurt sauce.
Complement your dish with your favorite sides or enjoy them as is.
Dig in and enjoy the flavorful beef kofta!
