Love lucky bamboo?
Want to grow it in water?
You’re in the right place! Check out 8 easy tactics to help your lucky bamboo thrive. Simple tips for a beautiful and healthy plant.
Let’s get growing!
Choose the Right Container

Pick a clear container so you can see the roots. Glass jars or vases work great.
Make sure it’s clean before you add anything. Also, size matters!
The container should be tall enough to support the bamboo as it grows but not too tall that it looks strange.
Add the Right Amount of Water
Fill your container with distilled or filtered water. Tap water might have chemicals that could harm your plant.
Make sure the water covers the roots but doesn’t submerge the entire stem. Check the water level every week and top it off as needed.
Give It Some Light
Lucky bamboo loves indirect light. Place your container near a window where it can get some natural light but avoid direct sunlight.
Too much sun can scorch the leaves. If you notice yellowing leaves, it might be getting too much light.
Feed It Occasionally
Lucky bamboo doesn’t need a lot of fertilizer. Use a few drops of liquid plant food in the water every couple of months.
Less is more here! Over-fertilizing can cause your bamboo to turn yellow and look unhealthy.
Keep It Clean
Change the water every two to four weeks. Rinse the rocks and the container to avoid any slime buildup.
Clean water helps keep your bamboo healthy and vibrant. If you notice any bad smell, it’s definitely time for a water change!
Check for Pests
Though lucky bamboo is pretty hardy, it can still get pests. Look out for any tiny bugs on the leaves or stem.
If you see any, rinse the plant with water. For stubborn pests, a gentle soap solution can do the trick.
Trim as Needed
If your lucky bamboo gets too tall or starts looking a bit wild, don’t be afraid to give it a trim. Use clean, sharp scissors to cut just above a node (those raised ridges).
You can propagate the cuttings to grow more bamboo if you like!
Mind the Temperature
Lucky bamboo likes to be warm. Keep it in a spot where the temperature stays between 65-95°F (18-35°C).
Avoid placing it near vents, drafts, or anything that could cause sudden temperature changes.
