Preparation Time 20-30 minutes
Cooking Time 40-50 minutes
Total Time 60-80 minutes
Level of Difficulty Medium

Ingredients

  • 1 package refrigerated biscuits (8 biscuits)
  • 1 pound ground breakfast sausage
  • 1 packet gravy mix
  • 5 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk

Step 1: Preheat Oven and Cook Sausage

Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C).

In the meantime, cook 1 pound of ground breakfast sausage in a large skillet over medium heat until it is fully cooked through and no longer pink.

Stir occasionally to break up the sausage into smaller pieces.

Step 2: Prepare Egg Mixture and Gravy

In a medium bowl, whisk together 5 eggs and 1/2 cup of milk until well combined.

Separately, prepare 1 packet of gravy mix according to the package directions.

This usually involves mixing the gravy powder with water and bringing it to a boil until it thickens.

Step 3: Prepare the Biscuits

Open the package of refrigerated biscuits.

Cut each biscuit into fourths to create smaller pieces that will be easier to layer in the casserole.

Spray the bottom and sides of a 9×13 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray to ensure easy removal later.

Step 4: Assemble the Casserole

Place the cut biscuit pieces on the bottom of the prepared baking dish, arranging them evenly.

Sprinkle the cooked sausage evenly over the layer of biscuits.

Then, pour the egg mixture over the sausage and biscuits, making sure it’s evenly distributed.

Finally, pour the prepared gravy over the top of the casserole, covering all the layers below.

Step 5: Bake and Serve

Place the assembled casserole dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40 minutes, or until the top is golden and the eggs are set.

Once the baking time is up, remove the casserole from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes to allow it to firm up slightly before cutting.

Serve warm and enjoy your hearty breakfast casserole!
