Ingredients
For the naan bread:
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 1/3 cups almond flour
- 1 egg (room temperature, about 70°F)
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup tapioca flour
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 cup greek yogurt (full-fat gives better texture)
- 1 tbsp light olive oil
For brushing (optional):
- butter or olive oil (optional, for extra flavor)
Step 1: Prepare the Wet Ingredients
In a medium-sized mixing bowl, add 1 egg and ¾ cup of Greek yogurt.
Whisk together until well combined.
Add in 1 tablespoon of light olive oil (or your preferred type) and 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar (or an alternative vinegar).
Stir until everything is uniformly mixed.
Step 2: Combine Dry Ingredients
Gradually add 1 and ⅓ cups of almond flour and ¾ cup of tapioca flour to the wet mixture in the bowl.
Then, incorporate 1 teaspoon of baking powder, ¼ teaspoon of baking soda, ¼ teaspoon of onion powder, ¼ teaspoon of garlic powder, and ¼ teaspoon of salt.
Mix until there are no more flour pockets left at the bottom of the bowl.
The dough should be slightly sticky but not overly wet.
Avoid adding additional flour to keep the dough moist.
Step 3: Prepare Parchment Paper and Shape the Dough
Prepare a piece of parchment paper about the size of the desired flatbread.
Fold it in half and tear along the crease to create two pieces.
Pour about ½ teaspoon of olive oil into your hands and rub it around to grease them, then spread a little oil over the parchment paper.
Scoop about ¼ of the dough into your hand, roll it into a ball, and place it in the center of the oiled parchment paper.
Flatten it slightly with your hand.
Place another piece of oiled parchment paper on top of the dough, and use your hand to spread it out to your desired size and thickness (approximately ⅛ inch thick).
Step 4: Cook the Flatbreads
Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add a small amount of oil to the pan.
Carefully flip the flatbread onto the pan by holding the parchment paper underneath and peeling it off.
Cook the flatbread for about 1.5 minutes or until it turns golden brown, then flip it over and cook for another minute until the other side is also golden brown.
Repeat this cooking process for the remaining dough portions.
Step 5: Serve and Enjoy
Optionally, once cooked, brush the flatbreads with melted butter or additional olive oil for added flavor.
Serve the flatbreads warm, either plain or with your favorite toppings or dips.
