Ingredients
- 16 ounces egg noodles
- 10 ounces tuna packed in water, well drained (two cans)
- 7 ounces sliced mushrooms (one can, well drained)
- 21 ounces cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 2 cups cheese, shredded
- 12 ounces evaporated milk
- 3/4 cup dry bread crumbs
- 2 tablespoons butter, divided
- 2 tablespoons parmesan cheese, shredded
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
Step 1: Preheat and Prepare Ingredients
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Boil 16 ounces of egg noodles in salted water until just al dente, which should take about 6 minutes.
Once they reach the desired texture, drain the noodles well.
Butter a baking dish using 1 tablespoon of butter to prevent sticking.
Drain and flake 10 ounces of tuna from two cans, and also drain 7 ounces of sliced mushrooms.
Step 2: Mix the Base
In a large bowl, combine 21 ounces of cream of mushroom soup with 12 ounces of evaporated milk (or half and half).
Stir until the mixture is smooth and well-blended.
Step 3: Combine Ingredients
To the soup and milk mixture, add the cooked egg noodles, flaked tuna, drained mushrooms, 1 cup of frozen peas, and 2 cups of shredded cheese.
Season the mixture with 1 teaspoon of salt and ½ teaspoon of pepper.
Mix everything together thoroughly to ensure all ingredients are evenly distributed.
Step 4: Assemble the Casserole
Pour the combined mixture into the buttered casserole dish, spreading it out evenly.
Top the mixture with ¾ cup of dry bread crumbs, and drizzle the remaining 1 tablespoon of melted butter over the top.
Finally, sprinkle 2 tablespoons of shredded Parmesan cheese over the bread crumbs for extra flavor.
Step 5: Bake and Broil
Cover the casserole dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until the dish is hot and bubbly.
After 30 minutes, remove the foil and place the casserole under the broiler for 3-4 minutes until the top is golden brown and crispy.
Step 6: Serve and Enjoy
Once the top is beautifully golden brown, remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
