Level of DifficultyMedium

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup low-fat cottage cheese (no salt added)
  • 1 tablespoon 1% low-fat milk
  • 16 oz ground turkey breast
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup flavored breadcrumbs
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the meatballs later.

Step 2: Blend Cottage Cheese and Milk

Place the cottage cheese and milk in a blender or food processor.

Blend until smooth, which should take about one minute.

This will be the base mixture for the meatballs.

Step 3: Mix Meatball Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the smooth cottage cheese mixture with ground turkey, an egg, seasoned breadcrumbs, dried basil, and black pepper.

Mix everything well until evenly incorporated.

Form the meat mixture into 15 meatballs of equal size for even cooking.

Step 4: Brown the Meatballs

Heat a 12-inch nonstick skillet over medium-high heat.

Add 1 tablespoon of canola oil.

Place the meatballs in the skillet and brown them on all sides.

Once browned, remove the meatballs from the pan and place them on a rack set over a baking sheet.

Repeat with the remaining canola oil and meatballs if needed.

Step 5: Bake the Meatballs

After browning, bake the meatballs in your preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, until they’re fully cooked through and reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).

Step 6: Serve and Enjoy

Once baked, serve the meatballs with pasta, in sandwiches, or sliced as a topping for pizza.

Enjoy your delicious and protein-packed meatballs!
