Let’s dive in!
Preparation Time | 15-20 minutes |
Cooking Time | 240-480 minutes |
Total Time | 255-500 minutes |
Level of Difficulty | Medium |
Ingredients
- 30 oz frozen hash brown shreds
- 1 lb cooked and drained breakfast sausage
- 8 oz grated cheddar cheese
- 8 oz grated mozzarella cheese
- 3 sliced green onions
- 12 large eggs
- 1/2 cup any type of milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
Step 1: Prepare the Crock Pot
Begin by spraying a 6-quart crock pot with nonstick spray.
This will help prevent the ingredients from sticking and facilitate easier cleanup.
Step 2: Layer the Ingredients
Arrange half of the frozen shredded hash browns in an even layer on the bottom of the crock pot.
Then, layer half of the browned and drained breakfast sausage over the hash browns.
Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar cheese and half of the shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the sausage.
Add a layer of sliced green onions for additional flavor.
Repeat the layers with the remaining hash browns, sausage, and cheeses, ensuring each layer is evenly spread out.
Step 3: Prepare and Add the Egg Mixture
In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper until well combined.
Slowly and evenly pour the egg mixture over the top of the layered ingredients in the crock pot, ensuring the liquid seeps through to the bottom layers.
Step 4: Cook the Casserole
Cover the crock pot with the lid and set it to cook on HIGH for 4 hours or on LOW for 8 hours.
The casserole is done when the eggs are set in the center.
Avoid lifting the lid too often while cooking as this can release the heat and disrupt the cooking process.
Step 5: Serve the Casserole
Once the casserole is fully cooked, scoop it into bowls and serve hot.
Enjoy your hearty and delicious breakfast casserole!
