Ingredients
For the dip base:
- 3/4 cup salsa
- 8 oz light cream cheese (softened to room temperature)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup fat-free Greek yogurt (I use Fage Total 0%)
- 2 tbsp taco spice mix (make sure it’s fresh for best flavor)
For the toppings:
- 1 tbsp sliced olives (optional, for extra brininess)
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 diced small avocado (diced right before serving to prevent browning)
- 1 diced roma tomato (small dice for better distribution)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 sliced green onions
Step 1: Prepare the Dip Base
In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, Greek yogurt, salsa, and taco seasoning.
Mix together using a hand mixer or a whisk until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
This will serve as the flavorful base for your dip.
Step 2: Spread into Dish
Once the dip base is mixed to a smooth consistency, spread it evenly into a 2-quart dish or a pie plate.
Use a spatula to smooth the surface, ensuring the dip is evenly distributed in the dish.
Step 3: Refrigerate
Cover the dish with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least one hour, or up to 24 hours.
This resting period allows the flavors to meld together, resulting in a more flavorful dip.
Step 4: Add Toppings and Serve
Before serving, remove the dip from the refrigerator and add your choice of toppings.
Common options include shredded cheese, chopped tomatoes, sliced olives, chopped green onions, and fresh cilantro.
Serve the dip with tortilla chips for scooping and enjoy!
