Suggestions for Ingredient Substitution

For beef tips or stew meat, consider using seitan or textured vegetable protein (TVP) for a vegetarian option. These plant-based alternatives can mimic the texture of beef when properly seasoned and cooked. Adjust cooking time as needed, as these substitutes may require less time to become tender.

Wide egg noodles can be replaced with zucchini noodles or shirataki noodles for a low-carb alternative. Zucchini noodles should be added near the end of cooking to prevent them from becoming mushy, while shirataki noodles can be rinsed and added directly to the stew.

Cream of mushroom soup can be substituted with a homemade cashew cream sauce mixed with sautéed mushrooms for a dairy-free option. Blend soaked cashews with water, then add to sautéed mushrooms and seasonings to create a creamy base. This substitution provides healthy fats and maintains the dish’s creamy texture.

Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp. olive oil (divided)
  • 2 tbsp. butter
  • 1 medium onion (diced)
  • 1 cup fresh mushrooms (sliced)
  • 1 tsp. minced garlic
  • 1 lb. beef tips/stew meat (bite size)
  • 1 tsp. onion powder
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. pepper
  • 1 tsp. worcestershire sauce
  • 8 oz. wide egg noodles (uncooked)
  • 2 cups water (divided)
  • 1 packet lipton beefy onion soup mix
  • 1 packet brown gravy
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup

Step 1: Sauté the Onion, Mushrooms, and Garlic

Begin by heating a non-stick skillet over medium heat.

Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter to the skillet.

Allow the butter to melt completely.

Add 1 medium diced sweet onion to the skillet and sauté until it becomes fragrant.

Then, add 1 cup of sliced fresh mushrooms and 1 teaspoon of minced garlic.

Cook the mixture for about 1 minute, being careful not to burn the garlic.

Once done, remove the onion, mushroom, and garlic mixture from the skillet and set it aside on a plate.

Step 2: Sear the Beef

In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of olive oil, then add 1 pound of beef tips or stew meat.

Season the beef with 1 teaspoon each of onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

Drizzle 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce over the beef.

Sear the beef on all sides until it is browned.

This step is crucial for building deeper flavors in your dish.

Step 3: Cook the Egg Noodles

In a separate pot, bring 2 cups of water to a boil and add 8 ounces of wide egg noodles.

Cook the noodles according to the package instructions until they are al dente.

Once cooked, drain the noodles and set them aside for later use.

Step 4: Prepare the Soup Mixture

In a bowl, mix 2/3 cup of water with 1 packet of Lipton beefy onion soup mix and 1 packet of brown gravy.

Whisk these together until they are fully combined and smooth.

Pour this soup mixture over the seared beef in the skillet.

Step 5: Combine and Simmer

Add 1 can of cream of mushroom soup to the skillet and stir everything to combine.

If the mixture appears too thick, you can add an additional 1/2 cup of water to reach your desired consistency.

Cover the skillet and let the mixture simmer on low heat for about 30 minutes.

Stir occasionally and add more water if needed to maintain the desired sauce consistency.

Step 6: Finalize the Dish

After 30 minutes of simmering, add the reserved onion, mushroom, and garlic mixture back into the skillet.

Stir to combine all the flavors.

Gently fold in the cooked egg noodles into the beef mixture until everything is well combined.

Serve your beef and noodles hot and enjoy this comforting dish!
