Ingredients
- 1 tsp cinnamon (freshly ground for best flavor)
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- additional whipped topping (optional, for garnish)
- 1 cup canned pumpkin (I use Libby’s pumpkin puree)
- 2 cups whipped topping (like Cool Whip, thawed)
- 2 cups powdered sugar (sifted to prevent lumps)
- 12 oz cream cheese (softened to room temperature)
Step 1: Gather Ingredients
First, collect all the necessary ingredients: 12 ounces of cream cheese, 2 cups of powdered sugar, 1 cup of canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling), 1 teaspoon of ground ginger, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and 2 cups of whipped topping.
Having everything ready will streamline the process.
Step 2: Mix Cream Cheese and Powdered Sugar
In a mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese and powdered sugar.
Using a hand mixer, beat these two ingredients until the mixture becomes light and fluffy.
This step ensures a smooth and creamy base for the dip.
Step 3: Add Pumpkin and Spices
Add 1 cup of canned pumpkin, 1 teaspoon of ground ginger, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon to the cream cheese mixture.
Continue to beat with the hand mixer until all the ingredients are thoroughly incorporated, creating a uniformly spiced pumpkin mixture.
Step 4: Fold in Whipped Topping
Gently fold in 2 cups of whipped topping into the pumpkin mixture.
Use a spatula to carefully mix until the whipped topping is fully blended with the other ingredients.
This will ensure the dip is light and airy.
Step 5: Chill the Dip
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
Chilling the dip allows the flavors to meld and the texture to firm up slightly.
Step 6: Serve the Pumpkin Dip
After the dip has chilled, spoon it into a serving bowl.
Optionally, you can top it with additional whipped topping and a sprinkle of cinnamon for decoration.
Serve with your choice of graham crackers, Teddy Grahams, pumpkin or ginger snaps, pretzels, or sliced apples for a delightful dipping experience.
