Choose Your Seeds
First things first, pick the seeds you want to sprout. Alfalfa, mung beans, and radish seeds are super popular.
Trust me, having the right seeds makes everything easier. Just make sure they’re marked as “sprouting seeds.”
Prep Your Jar
Grab a clean, wide-mouth jar. Mason jars are perfect for this.
Rinse it thoroughly and leave it to dry. You’ll also need a mesh lid or cheesecloth secured with a rubber band to cover the jar.
This setup lets air in while keeping bugs out.
Soak The Seeds
Pour about 1-2 tablespoons of seeds into your jar. Fill the jar halfway with water and swish it around to get the seeds good and wet.
Leave the seeds to soak for about 8-12 hours. This softens the seeds and kickstarts the sprouting process.
Drain And Rinse
After soaking, drain the water using the mesh lid or cheesecloth. Rinse the seeds thoroughly with fresh water, then drain again.
Shaking the jar gently helps. Place the jar in a tilted position to allow excess water to drain out.
Rinse And Repeat
Rinse and drain your seeds twice daily, once in the morning and once at night. Keeping the seeds moist but not waterlogged is key.
After a few days, you’ll see little sprouts emerging. Exciting, right?
Harvest Time
When your sprouts look ready to eat—usually around 4-6 days—give them one last rinse. Then, lay them out on paper towels to dry.
This helps to extend their shelf life. Once dry, store them in a container in the fridge.
