Ready to dig in?
Let’s go!
Gather Your Seeds

First things first, you’ll need to grab some cypress seeds. If there’s a cypress tree nearby, you can collect seeds from the cones.
You can also buy seeds online if you don’t have any trees around. Make sure to check that the seeds are fresh for a better chance of success.
Stratify Your Seeds
Sounds fancy, right? It’s really just a way to mimic winter conditions.
Put your seeds in a damp paper towel, place it in a plastic bag, and toss it in the fridge for about 2 months. This helps break the seed’s dormancy and prepares it for sprouting.
Prepare the Soil

Get yourself some good seed-starting mix. Cypress trees prefer well-drained soil.
Fill up some small pots with the soil mix. Make sure the soil is moist but not soggy.
Plant the Seeds
After stratification, take those seeds out of the fridge. Plant them in the prepared soil about 1/4 inch deep.
Lightly cover them with soil and gently water them. Keep the soil moist as they start to grow.
Provide the Right Conditions

Your seeds will need warmth and light to germinate. Place the pots in a sunny spot or use a grow light.
Room temperature, around 70 degrees Fahrenheit, should do just fine.
Water Regularly
Keep an eye on the moisture levels. Cypress seeds need consistent moisture to germinate, but be careful not to overwater.
Aim to keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged.
Transplanting the Seedlings

Once your seedlings are a few inches tall and have a couple of sets of true leaves, it’s time to move them. Transplant them to a bigger pot or directly to the garden.
Make sure their new spot has good drainage.
Care for Your Young Trees
Congrats, you made it this far! Now, keep up the care.
Water your young cypress trees regularly but allow the soil to dry out between watering. A little bit of fertilizer now and then won’t hurt either.
