‘Tis the season for all things festive, and I have a treat that’s sure to spread some holiday cheer!
Today, I’m excited to share my recipe for Christmas Chocolate Crinkle Cookies.
These cookies are soft, chocolatey, and have that beautiful powdered sugar coating that looks just like fresh snow!
They’re perfect for sharing (or keeping all to yourself)!
So, let’s dive into the holiday spirit and get baking!

Preparation Time | 15-20 minutes |
Cooking Time | 10-12 minutes |
Total Time | 4 hours 25 minutes – 24 hours 32 minutes |
Level of Difficulty | Medium |
Ingredients
- 1 cup cocoa powder, unsweetened (100g)
- 1 3/4 cups sugar, granulated (350g)
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil (120ml)
- 4 large eggs, at room temperature
- 2 teaspoons vanilla essence
- 2 cups plain flour (240g)
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup confectioners’ sugar (120g)
Step 1: Prepare the Cocoa Mixture
In a large mixing bowl using a hand mixer, or in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine the sugar, cocoa powder, and oil.
Beat on medium speed until well combined and shiny.
Step 2: Incorporate Eggs and Vanilla
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition until fully combined.
Then, beat in the vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and homogeneous.
Step 3: Combine Dry Ingredients and Mix
In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Stir to combine.
Gradually add the flour mixture to the cocoa mixture, mixing on low speed just until combined.
Be careful not to overmix.
Step 4: Chill the Dough
Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or up to overnight.
This allows the dough to firm up for easier handling and produces better-shaped cookies.
Step 5: Preheat and Prepare Baking Sheets
Once the dough has chilled, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
Place the powdered sugar into a small bowl
Step 6: Roll Dough Balls and Coat with Powdered Sugar
Using a small ice cream scoop or a tablespoon, scoop out the chilled dough and roll into roughly one-inch balls.
Roll the dough balls in powdered sugar until well coated.
Place on the prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
(Only coat as many dough balls as you can fit on the baking sheets at one time.
Keep the remaining dough balls refrigerated and roll in powdered sugar just before baking.)
Step 7: Bake and Cool
Bake the cookies for 10 to 12 minutes or until the edges are firm and the center is puffed but still appears slightly wet.
Let them cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Enjoy your delicious cookies!
