What Kind of Cottage Cheese Should I Use for My Cinnamon Rolls?
For soft and fluffy cottage cheese cinnamon rolls, your choice of cottage cheese can significantly impact the final result.
Full-fat (4% milkfat) cottage cheese will provide the richest flavor and contribute to a softer, more tender texture in the rolls.
Low-fat (2%) offers a good balance of taste and nutrition, suitable for most baking purposes.
Non-fat (0%) can be used if you’re strictly watching calories, but may result in slightly drier rolls.
For the best balance of flavor and texture in this recipe, opt for full-fat cottage cheese.
Whichever type you choose, ensure it’s well-blended to prevent lumps in your dough. A quality brand like ‘Good Culture Cottage Cheese‘ works well, but any preferred brand will suffice.
Remember to drain excess liquid if your cottage cheese seems watery to maintain the right dough consistency.
Common Mistakes to Avoid When Making Cottage Cheese Cinnamon Rolls
- Overmixing the dough, which can make rolls tough.
- Using cold ingredients instead of room temperature ones.
- Rolling the dough too thin or too thick.
- Overcrowding the baking pan, preventing proper rising and baking.
- Opening the oven door too frequently during baking.
- Not allowing the rolls to cool slightly before serving, as they may fall apart.

Ingredients
- 1 cup cottage cheese
- 3/4 cup white sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup oil
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons baking powder
- 4 1/4 cups flour (plus more for dusting)
- 2 cups packed brown sugar
- 1 1/2-2 tablespoons cinnamon
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup honey
Step 1: Prepare the Oven and Baking Pan
Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).
While the oven is heating, grease a 9 x 13 inch baking pan to ensure your rolls won’t stick after baking.
Step 2: Blend the Dough Ingredients
In a blender, add the cottage cheese and blend it until smooth.
Then, add sugar, eggs, oil, and milk, blending again until the mixture is completely smooth.
Once blended, pour the mixture into a large bowl.
Step 3: Combine the Dry Ingredients
Add the baking powder to the cottage cheese mixture and stir to combine.
Gradually add the flour a little at a time, mixing until the dough becomes smooth.
Step 4: Prepare the Dough and Filling
Flour your work surface and stretch the dough out into a large rectangle.
In another bowl, prepare the filling by mixing brown sugar and cinnamon together.
Step 5: Assemble the Rolls
Melt some butter and brush it over the stretched dough.
Drizzle honey over the butter evenly.
Then, sprinkle the prepared sugar and cinnamon mixture over the entire surface of the dough.
Step 6: Roll and Bake
Carefully roll the dough up tightly from one end to the other, forming a log.
Cut the rolled dough into 1 to 1 1/2 inch slices and place them in the greased baking pan.
Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
Step 7: Serve and Enjoy
Once baked, remove the rolls from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes.
Serve warm straight out of the oven for a delicious treat!
