Total Time | 80-100 minutes |
Level of Difficulty | Medium |
Ingredients
- 1 cup pumpkin puree (canned)
- 1 cup apple butter
- 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 beaten eggs
- 1 cup evaporated milk
- 1 unbaked 9-inch deep dish pie crust
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 cup plain flour
- 1/3 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
This ensures the oven reaches the right temperature while you prepare the pie filling and toppings.
Step 2: Prepare the Pie Filling
In a large bowl, combine 1 cup of pumpkin puree, 1 cup of apple butter, ¼ cup of dark brown sugar, ½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon, ½ teaspoon of ground nutmeg, and ¼ teaspoon of salt.
Stir until well blended.
Then, add 3 beaten eggs and 1 cup of evaporated milk to the mixture.
Mix everything together until smooth.
Pour this mixture into a prepared, unbaked 9-inch deep dish pie crust, spreading it out evenly.
Step 3: Bake the Pie
Place the filled pie crust in the preheated oven and bake for 50 to 60 minutes.
The pie is ready for the next step when a knife inserted 2 inches from the center comes out clean.
Step 4: Prepare the Streusel Topping
While the pie is baking, prepare the streusel topping.
In a small bowl, combine 3 tablespoons of butter, ½ cup of all-purpose flour, and ⅓ cup of dark brown sugar.
Stir until the mixture forms coarse crumbs.
Then, mix in ½ cup of chopped pecans.
Set the streusel topping aside until needed.
Step 5: Add Streusel and Finish Baking
After the pie has baked for 50 to 60 minutes and it passes the knife test, take it out of the oven.
Sprinkle the prepared streusel topping evenly over the pie.
Return the pie to the oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes, allowing the streusel to become golden and crunchy.
Step 6: Cool and Serve
Once the pie has finished baking, remove it from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack.
Serve the pie at room temperature or slightly warm.
Enjoy your delicious pumpkin pie with streusel topping!
