Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup brown sugar, firmly packed (140 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 large orange (zest and juice)
  • 1/2 cup orange juice (combined with water if needed)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 1/3 cups canned pumpkin (275 grams)
  • Pie crust

Step 1: Preheat and Prep

Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) to ensure it reaches the proper temperature for baking.

Prepare your pie crust and have it ready to fill.

Set it aside.

Step 2: Combine Sugar and Spices

In a large measuring cup, combine 2/3 cup (140 grams) of firmly packed brown sugar with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of ginger, 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg, and 1/4 teaspoon of allspice.

Stir the mixture until all the ingredients are well incorporated.

Step 3: Add Eggs, Vanilla, and Orange

Add 2 eggs and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the sugar and spice mixture.

Mix well until thoroughly combined.

Zest one large orange and add the zest to the mixture.

Juice the orange to obtain about 1/2 cup of orange juice.

If you don’t have enough juice, top it up with water to make a full 1/2 cup.

Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 10 minutes at 450°F (232°C).

After 10 minutes, reduce the oven temperature to 325°F (163°C) and continue baking for an additional 35-55 minutes.

Check for doneness by inserting a knife into the center of the pie; it should come out clean when the pie is fully set.

Step 6: Cool and Serve

Once the pie is done, remove it from the oven and allow it to cool before serving.
