Preparation Time | 15-20 minutes |
Cooking Time | 75-90 minutes |
Total Time | 90-110 minutes |
Level of Difficulty | Medium |
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger powder
- 1/2 teaspoon clove powder
- 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1 can pumpkin puree (15 oz)
- 1 can evaporated milk (12 oz)
- 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust
Step 1: Combine Dry and Wet Ingredients
In a medium-sized bowl, mix together the sugar, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves until well combined.
Stir in the applesauce and pumpkin puree, ensuring the mixture is smooth and evenly distributed.
Step 2: Incorporate the Evaporated Milk
Gradually add the evaporated milk to the sugar-spice mixture.
Stir in small amounts of milk at a time, ensuring that the milk is fully incorporated before adding more.
This helps to maintain a smooth consistency.
Step 3: Fill the Pie Shell
Pour the pumpkin mixture into the prepared pie shell, spreading it out evenly.
Make sure there are no air bubbles or lumps in the filling.
Step 4: Bake the Pie
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
Place the pie in the oven and bake for 15 minutes.
After 15 minutes, reduce the oven temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for an additional 60 minutes.
To check if the pie is done, insert a knife near the center; if it comes out clean, the pie is ready.
If not, bake for an additional 10-15 minutes and check again.
Step 5: Cool and Serve
Once the pie is fully baked, remove it from the oven and allow it to cool for 2 hours on a wire rack.
This cooling period is crucial for the pie to set properly.
You can then serve the pie immediately, optionally adding a dollop of whipped topping if desired.
If you are not serving the pie right away, refrigerate it to maintain freshness.
