Preparation Time | 10-15 minutes |
Cooking Time | 19-20 minutes |
Total Time | 129-135 minutes |
Level of Difficulty | Easy |
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups salted butter (softened)
- 3/4 cup powdered sugar
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup cornstarch
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract, lemon extract, or orange extract
- 1/4 cup sprinkles (your choice, i used nonpareils)
Step 1: Prepare the Cookie Dough
In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and confectioners’ sugar together for 3-4 minutes.
This step is crucial for achieving light-textured cookies, so don’t skimp on the beating time.
If you’re adding flavorings, incorporate them now and give the mixture another whirl to combine evenly.
Step 2: Combine Dry Ingredients
Next, add the sifted flour and cornstarch into the mixing bowl.
Beat the mixture only until the dry ingredients are just combined.
Overmixing can lead to tougher cookies, so be gentle during this step.
Step 3: Form the Cookie Balls
Scoop and roll the dough into 36 equal-sized cookie balls.
Place the cookie dough balls on a pre-lined baking tray or a large plate coated with a little flour to prevent sticking.
Press the tops of the dough balls with a fork dipped in cornstarch or flour, and add sprinkles if desired.
Step 4: Chill the Dough Balls
Chill the dough balls in the fridge for about 2 hours or until they are very firm to the touch.
For a quicker option, you can freeze the dough balls until firm.
This step is important to ensure the cookies hold their shape during baking.
Step 5: Preheat Oven and Bake
While the dough balls are chilling, preheat your oven to 300°F.
Once the dough balls are firm, place them on a baking tray, spaced evenly.
Typically, you can bake 12 cookies on a tray at a time.
Bake the cookies for 19-20 minutes, or until the tops look set.
Step 6: Cool and Serve
After baking, allow the cookies to cool on the baking tray before handling.
Once cooled, they are ready to be enjoyed!
I can’t wait to try these!
