Preparation Time 15-20 minutes
Cooking Time 10-11 minutes
Total Time 25-31 minutes
Level of Difficulty Easy

Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract

Step 1: Preheat the Oven and Prepare Ingredients

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

While the oven is heating up, prepare your ingredients and tools.

Line a cookie sheet with a Silpat or parchment paper to prevent the cookies from sticking and ensure even baking.

Step 2: Mix Wet Ingredients

Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, beat together the sugar and Crisco until the mixture is light and fluffy.

Then, beat in the eggs one at a time until fully incorporated.

This will create a smooth and creamy base for your cookie dough.

Step 3: Combine Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Make sure these dry ingredients are well combined to ensure even distribution throughout the dough.

Step 4: Mix Everything Together

Alternate adding the milk and the flour mixture to the sugar and Crisco mixture.

Start with a small amount of the flour mixture, mix it in, then add a bit of milk, and continue to alternate until everything is fully combined.

Once the dough is well mixed, add in the vanilla and give it a final stir to incorporate.

Step 5: Shape and Decorate the Cookies

Drop tablespoons of dough onto the prepared cookie sheet, spacing them evenly to allow for spreading.

Sprinkle the tops of the cookies with red and green sugar for a festive touch.

Step 6: Bake and Cool

Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 10-11 minutes, or until they are lightly golden around the edges.

Remove from the oven and allow them to cool on the cookie sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Enjoy your freshly baked cookies!
