Today, I’m excited to share my favorite Christmas eggnog punch recipe.
It’s creamy, delicious, and just the right amount of festive.
Perfect for parties or a cozy night in, this punch will have everyone asking for the recipe!
So let’s get mixing and spread some holiday cheer!
Preparation Time | 15-20 minutes |
Cooking Time | 15-30 minutes |
Total Time | 150-180 minutes |
Level of Difficulty | Medium |
Ingredients
- 2 cups (480 ml) milk
- 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream
- 6 egg yolks
- 1/2 cup (100 g) sugar
- Pinch of salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) cognac, whiskey, bourbon, or rum (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon cloves
Step 1: Whisk Egg Yolks and Sugar
In a large bowl, whisk egg yolks and sugar until the mixture becomes light, thick, and fluffy.
Once fully mixed, set the bowl aside.
Step 2: Heat Milk and Spices
In a saucepan, combine milk, heavy cream, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.
Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.
Step 3: Temper and Thicken the Mixture
Temper the eggs by slowly adding the hot milk mixture into the eggs, whisking constantly while you pour.
When combined, pour the mixture back into the saucepan.
Cook over low heat, stirring frequently with a wooden spoon, until the mixture begins to thicken slightly and coats the back of the spoon or reaches about 160°F (70°C).
The mixture will thicken further as it cools.
Step 4: Add Flavorings and Strain
Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and liquor of your choice.
Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer to ensure smoothness and remove any solids.
Step 5: Chill the Eggnog
Pour the eggnog into a pitcher, bottle, or other container.
Chill it in the fridge for at least 2 hours before serving.
Step 6: Serve
When ready to serve, pour the chilled eggnog into a glass with ice cubes.
Sprinkle some grated nutmeg and cinnamon over the top.
Enjoy!
Notes:
- Traditional Eggnog with Egg Whites: If you prefer the traditional recipe, whip egg whites to stiff peaks and fold them into the chilled eggnog mixture.
- Best Alcohol for Eggnog: Eggnog is typically made with rum, brandy, bourbon, cognac, or whiskey.
You can choose your preferred alcohol or omit it for a kid-friendly version.
- Storage: Homemade eggnog can be kept in the fridge for up to 3 days.
- Raw Eggs: This recipe cooks the eggs to 160°F (70°C), making the eggnog safer to drink.
