Ingredients
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder (unsweetened)
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/3 cup boiling water
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups milk (choose dairy or non-dairy)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
- 1/2 teaspoon peppermint essence
- Optional toppings: whipped cream, crushed peppermints, marshmallows
Step 1: Combine and Heat the Initial Ingredients
In a medium saucepan, combine cocoa, sugar, water, and a pinch of salt.
Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir constantly until the mixture comes to a boil.
Step 2: Cook the Mixture
Once the mixture is boiling, continue to cook, stirring constantly for an additional 1 minute to ensure the sugar fully dissolves and the cocoa is well incorporated.
Step 3: Add Milk and Heat
Stir in the milk to the saucepan.
Continue to heat the mixture, making sure it does not come to a boil.
Heat until it is warmed through and smooth.
Step 4: Add Flavorings and Serve
Remove the saucepan from the heat.
Add in vanilla extract and peppermint extract, stirring well to combine all the flavors.
