Preparation Time | 15-20 minutes |
Cooking Time | 10-15 minutes |
Total Time | 25-35 minutes |
Level of Difficulty | Medium |
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground sausage
- 1 cup low-carb marinara sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon italian herbs
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- (optional) crushed red pepper flakes
- (optional) chopped parsley for garnish
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C) to get it ready for baking.
Step 2: Brown the Sausage
In a skillet set over medium heat, brown the ground sausage.
Cook until the sausage is fully browned, breaking it apart with a spoon or spatula as it cooks.
Once done, remove from heat.
Step 3: Prepare the Cheese Mixture
In a separate bowl, combine the parmesan cheese, ricotta cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and salt.
Mix these ingredients together until well blended into a cheesy, flavorful mixture.
Step 4: Assemble the Layers
Prepare individual oven-safe bowls for assembling the dish.
In each bowl, layer the ingredients as follows: start with 1/4 of the browned sausage, then add 1/4 of the low carb marinara sauce, top with 1/4 of the ricotta mixture, and finally, sprinkle with about 1/4 (or more if desired) of shredded mozzarella cheese.
Repeat this process for each bowl.
Step 5: Bake or Microwave and Serve
Place the assembled bowls on a sheet pan to catch any potential spills.
Bake in the preheated oven until the cheese is melted and bubbly, approximately 10 minutes.
Alternatively, you can microwave the bowls for about 3-5 minutes until the cheese is thoroughly melted.
Carefully remove the bowls from the oven or microwave, let them cool slightly, and enjoy your delicious, layered, cheesy dish!
Could I use cottage cheese instead of the ricotta?
Looks delicious plan to make it tonight!
